Citizenship processes are governed by Citizenship Laws that is, the Constitution of Zimbabwe, Amendment [No. 20] Act 2013 and the Citizenship of Zimbabwe Act [Chapter 4:01] as amended. The Registrar General is mandated to perform the following functions in terms of the Citizenship of Zimbabwe Act Chapter 4:01:-

- Accept and process applications
- Manage renunciation of Zimbabwe and foreign citizenship
There are three ways by which a person can become a citizen of Zimbabwe. These are Citizenship by birth, descent and registration.

- Is dual citizenship allowed?
- An adult citizen of Zimbabwe is prohibited to be a citizen of a foreign country in terms of the provisions of the Constitution of Zimbabwe except on the condition that the person is a citizen of Zimbabwe by birth.
NB: Citizenship is the backbone of all vital civil registrations because it controls and protects the rights and privileges of citizens of Zimbabwe.
