Citizenship Registration

Citizenship processes are governed by Citizenship Laws that is, the Constitution of Zimbabwe, Amendment [No. 20] Act 2013 and the Citizenship of Zimbabwe Act [Chapter 4:01] as amended. The Registrar General is mandated to perform the following functions in terms of the Citizenship of Zimbabwe Act Chapter 4:01:-

 

  • Establish citizenship
  • Confirm citizenship
  • Grant citizenship
  • Accept and process applications
  • Manage renunciation of Zimbabwe and foreign citizenship

 

There are three ways by which a person can become a citizen of Zimbabwe. These are Citizenship by birth, descent and registration.

  2. Citizenship registration certificate
  3. Citizenship status certificate
  4. Certificate of Renunciation of Zimbabwe Citizenship.

  1. Application for Zimbabwe Citizenship :-

 

  • Birth certificate from country of origin
    • Zimbabwean ID
    • Current passport and copy of bio page and residence permit
    • Previous passports and copies of bio pages
    • Permanent residence (at least 5yrs)
    • Marriage certificate where applicable

Normal processing               –       US$ 5000.00 (strictly USD)

 

Processing time

Normal application               –       Approximately 18 months

  • Birth certificate
  • National Identity Document
  • Passport
  • Marriage certificate ( where applicable)
  • Request letter from relevant authorities
  • Client’s request letter
  • For third part submission authorisation letter by applicant

  • National Identity Document
  • Passport
  • Copy of birth certificate – certified
  • Copy of marriage certificate – certified
  • Permanent Residence Permit (where applicable).
  • Documentary evidence from adopting country.
  • Applicant’s request letter.
  • For third part submission authorisation letter by applicant.

  1. Is dual citizenship allowed?
  2. An adult citizen of Zimbabwe is prohibited to be a citizen of a foreign country in terms of the provisions of the Constitution of Zimbabwe except on the condition that the person is a citizen of Zimbabwe by birth.

 

NB: Citizenship is the backbone of all vital civil registrations because it controls and protects the rights and privileges of citizens of Zimbabwe.
